001Ayah 1 of 52

The Inevitable Hour!

002Ayah 2 of 52

What is the Inevitable Hour?

003Ayah 3 of 52

How do you know what the Inevitable Hour is?

004Ayah 4 of 52

Thamūd and ‘Ād denied the Striking Calamity of the Hour[1].

Translation notes: [1] The Striking Calamity is one of the names of the Day of Judgment.

005Ayah 5 of 52

As for Thamūd, they were destroyed by a dreadful blast.

006Ayah 6 of 52

And as for ‘Ād, they were destroyed by a furious windstorm[2]

Translation notes: [2] Or by a cold windstorm.

007Ayah 7 of 52

which He unleashed against them for seven successive nights and eight days, so you would see the people lying dead as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees.

008Ayah 8 of 52

Do you see any trace of them now?

009Ayah 9 of 52

Also, Pharaoh and those who came before him, and the overturned cities [of Lot] committed the grave sin,

010Ayah 10 of 52

each disobeying the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with a severe punishment.

011Ayah 11 of 52

Indeed, when the floodwater overflowed, We carried you [O humans] in the sailing Ark[3],

Translation notes: [3] Which was made by Noah with Allah's command.

012Ayah 12 of 52

so that We might make it a reminder for you, and that attentive ears may take heed.

013Ayah 13 of 52

Then when the Trumpet is blown with a single blast,

014Ayah 14 of 52

and the earth and mountains are lifted up and crushed with a single blow,

015Ayah 15 of 52

on that Day the Inevitable Event will occur.

016Ayah 16 of 52

And the sky will split asunder and will be frail[4] on that day,

Translation notes: [4] i.e., weak and unstable.

017Ayah 17 of 52

with the angels on all its sides, and on that Day, eight [mighty angels] will bear the Throne of your Lord above them.

018Ayah 18 of 52

On that day, you will be brought forth [before Allah], and none of your secrets will remain hidden.

019Ayah 19 of 52

As for the one who is given his Record in his right hand, he will say, “Here is my Record, read it!

020Ayah 20 of 52

I was sure that I would meet my reckoning.”

021Ayah 21 of 52

So he will be in a pleasant life,

022Ayah 22 of 52

in a lofty garden,

023Ayah 23 of 52

with clustered fruit within his reach.

024Ayah 24 of 52

[They will be told,] “Eat and drink joyfully for what you did[5] in the days gone by.”

Translation notes: [5] Lit., "advanced" anticipating the reward in the Hereafter.

025Ayah 25 of 52

As for the one who is given his Record in his left hand, he will say, “Would that I had not been given my Record,

026Ayah 26 of 52

nor had I known anything of my reckoning!

027Ayah 27 of 52

Would that it [i.e., death] had been the end of me[6]!

Translation notes: [6] Rather than a gateway to eternal life.

028Ayah 28 of 52

My wealth has been of no avail to me.

029Ayah 29 of 52

My authority has vanished[7].”

Translation notes: [7] i.e., I have no valid argument or authority today.

030Ayah 30 of 52

[It will be said,] “Seize him and shackle him,

031Ayah 31 of 52

then make him burn in the Blazing Fire,

032Ayah 32 of 52

then tie him up with a chain of seventy cubits long.

033Ayah 33 of 52

For he did not believe in Allah, the Most Great,

034Ayah 34 of 52

nor did he encourage feeding the needy.

035Ayah 35 of 52

So Today he will have no close friend here,

036Ayah 36 of 52

nor any food except the discharge of wounds,

037Ayah 37 of 52

none will eat it except the sinners.”

038Ayah 38 of 52

I swear by what you can see.

039Ayah 39 of 52

and what you cannot see!

040Ayah 40 of 52

Indeed, this is the word of a noble Messenger[8],

Translation notes: [8] i.e., recited by Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ).

041Ayah 41 of 52

and it is not the word of a poet; little do you believe!

042Ayah 42 of 52

Nor is it the word of a soothsayer; little do you take heed!

043Ayah 43 of 52

It is a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.

044Ayah 44 of 52

If he had falsely attributed something to Us,

045Ayah 45 of 52

We would have surely seized him by the right hand[9],

Translation notes: [9] Or "by [Our] Right Hand," i.e., Allah would have surely exacted revenge with might and power.

046Ayah 46 of 52

then severed his aorta[10],

Translation notes: [10] i.e., his life artery of the heart; causing immediate death.

047Ayah 47 of 52

and none of you could have rescued him.

048Ayah 48 of 52

This [Qur’an] is indeed a reminder for those who are righteous.

049Ayah 49 of 52

And We surely know that some of you will be deniers,

050Ayah 50 of 52

and it[11] will certainly be a source of regret for the disbelievers.

Translation notes: [11] i.e., denying this Qur’an.

051Ayah 51 of 52

And this[12] is indeed the absolute truth.

Translation notes: [12] i.e., this Qur’an.

052Ayah 52 of 52

So glorify the name of your Lord, the Most Great.
