and how do you know what the night comer is?

It is the star of piercing brightness[1] –
Translation notes: [1] Whose light pierces through the darkness or through the sky.

there is no soul except that there is a watcher over it.
005Ayah 5 of 17
Let man reflect on what he was created from.
006Ayah 6 of 17
He was created from a spurting fluid,
007Ayah 7 of 17
emerging from between the backbone and the ribs[2].
Translation notes: [2] Both testes and ovaries are sustained by arteries originating between the backbone and the ribcage.

Indeed, Allah is able to bring him back to life.
009Ayah 9 of 17
On the Day when all secrets will be disclosed[3],
Translation notes: [3] The secrets will be examined, disclosing the real intentions and faiths people harbored, distinguishing between righteous and evil therefrom.

he will then have no power, nor any helper.

By the sky and its recurring rain[4],
Translation notes: [4] And sun, moon, stars, clouds, heat, etc.

and by the earth that cracks open [with the sprout of plants],

Indeed, this [Qur’an] is a decisive word,
014Ayah 14 of 17
which is not for amusement.
015Ayah 15 of 17
Indeed, they are devising a plan.
016Ayah 16 of 17
I am too devising a plan.
017Ayah 17 of 17
So bear with the disbelievers, and give them respite for a while[5].
